Following the resounding success of the second Young Persons' World Lecture competition Final held at the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoM3) head quarters in London on 20th June 2006, the Institute is now looking at ways in which the third event in the series can be enhanced. One such idea is to give the competing countries the opportunity to host the final in their own respective country for 2007. This would give the host country a significant amount of publicity within the institute sphere and raise the profile of their international group.

The institute are now seeking proposals from interested countries in relation to organising the YPWLC final in 2007. The date of which will be set by the institute in the near future. The institute would like to see the proposal address the following aspects of the event:

Promotional: engaging with younger members, engaging institute members in host country, attendance by key industrialists and academics would also be important. How would the host country address these aspects?

Associated programme of events for competing finalists for the duration of their stay (3 days)

Highlight a potential sponsor(s) from the host country (this must not be a competitor of Rolls Royce Plc) who could contribute to the event

Identifying a suitable venue for an event of this nature to reflect its importance on a global stage will also be important

With the attendance at the final of key institute personnel (possibly including the chief executive and President) suggest ways in which their visit to your country could be maximised to the benefit of members/organisations/institutions.

A full-cost covered budget for the event.

The secretariat based in London will coordinate the arrangements for the 2007 final in consultation with the event sponsors and host country. The institute will produce publicity material, invitations and programmes for the event in 2007. Proposals should be submitted no later than August 31st 2006, to Dr Brett Suddell (Vice President IoM3) at brettsuddell@gmail.com, the institute will then select a country from the proposals submitted.
