Materialography Competition 1998

Surface morphology of an amorphous carbon (a-C:H) film of thickness 0.1 microns prepared via magnetron sputtering of graphite in Ar + H2 atmosphere, taken on 12th Feb. 1998 in SAS, NTU, Singapore, on Jeol JEM-2010 TEM at 200 kV. The "grain boundaries" were molded on from the KBr substrate. A selected area aperture was used to create the "3-D ball" illusion. Magnificaton: about 30,000X.
